Nina Louise (Kaelin) Owensby, 99, of Centralia, IL passed away Thursday, November 2, 2017 at Faith Countryside Nursing Home in Highland, IL. Nina was born May 7, 1918 in Centralia, IL, daughter of Benjamin J. and Mearl (Shanklin) Kaelin. She married Thomas Doran in St. Louis, MO in 1938 and lived in Vandalia, IL. They divorced in 1947, one child was born of this union. In 1948 she married Jerry W. Quayle in Centralia, Il and they divorced in 1976; one child was born of that union. In 1978, she married Kenneth T. Owensby in Centralia, IL, stepchildren were happily gained from this union. Kenneth preceded her in death on July 7, 1993.

She was also preceded in death by her father, her mother, her brother, Keith, and grandsons, Benjamin J. Pigg and Thomas M. Pigg; stepdaughter, Dolores (Owensby) Hall and husband Charles; stepdaughter-in-law, Vera Owensby.

Survivors include a daughter, Margaret Dianne (Doran) Schwarz and her husband Tom of Trenton, IL; a daughter, Candyce Ellen (Quayle) Frazier and husband Russel of Pocahontas, IL; a stepson, Gary Owensby of Aiken, SC; two stepdaughters, Shirley (Ownesby) Baldridge and her husband Bill, and Vicki (Owensby) King, all of Centralia, IL.

She left four grandchildren, Nathalie Elisabeth Oxenham, Katherine Elisabeth Hargrove, Andrew Pigg and wife Gina, and Corey Frazier and wife Lesley; three great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; niece, Mary Chott and husband Steve; two nephews, Bob Kaelin and Ben Kaelin; five great nieces and nephews.
Nina graduated from Centralia Township High School in 1936. She attended Mac Murray College for Women in Jacksonville, IL from 1936 through 1938, in the school of Fine Arts. Later, she attended Centralia Junior College and graduated with an associate degree. She then attended McKendree College in Lebanon, IL and graduated with a B.A. degree. She taught school in Centralia for 28 years.

She was a member of the Presbyterian Church from early childhood until 1978 when she joined the Hickory Street Christian Church, later Calumet Street Church, and remained a member until her death. Nina sang most of her life commencing with the Presbyterian Church Choir and then with the Hickory St. and Calumet St. Christian Church Choirs. She sang solos for many organizations and sang many years with that group.

She was a member of the Prairie State Chapter of The Daughters of the American Revolution, the Retired Teachers Association, Ladies Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars, and A.A.R.P. She belonged to the Senior Saints and the Kingdom Builders Class of Calumet St. Christian Church.

Services for Nina will be held 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at the Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia, IL with John Willis officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Centralia, IL. Friends and relatives are invited to visiting hours from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Calumet Street Christian Church or the Prairie State Chapter of DAR.
