He was born on September 2, 1935 the son of Harold and Olga (Bartimus) Murray in Patoka. He married the love of his life and best friend Shirley Ann Wilmoth on February 10, 1956 at the home of Rev. Wayne Blunt and she preceded him in death on April 27, 2017.

Survivors include his beloved children, Mark Murray and fiancée Sandy Wright of Patoka, and Lu Ann Baldridge and husband Mike of Patoka; cherished grandchildren, Tara Scrivner and husband Wade, Shaun Murray and wife Casey, Chris Murray and wife Alicia, Jordan Baldridge and wife Danielle, Drew Baldridge and special friend Katie Kraus; 11 precious great-grandchildren, Allie, Grace and Hudson Scrivner, Olivia and Abigail Murray, Blaize, Charlee and Bryar Murray, and Tristan, Khloe and Adeline Baldridge; devoted brother, Donald Murray and wife Sharon of Centralia; dearly loved by his several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

Along with his wife of 61 years, Shirley Murray, Alvin was preceded in death by both his parents, Harold and Olga Murray; and infant sister, Barbara Murray.

Alvin greeted everyone with a winning smile and a story. Alvin had a strong work ethic which he passed on to his children and grandchildren. His favorite jobs on the farm were baling hay and taking care of his cows. He was a devoted husband, making treasured memories with his wife Shirley and caring for her when she went through her battle with cancer. Alvin received so much joy from watching his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren grow. He knew what a blessing it was to have his family so close.
