Barbara L. Newcomb, 74, of Centralia passed away Tuesday, November 27, 2018 surrounded by the love and care of her family. She was born on November 20, 1944 the daughter of Fred and Amanda (Menn) Flores in San Antonia, TX.

Barbara was devoted to each member of her loving family, daughters, Brenda Winter and husband William Keith of Highland, Beverly Schipkowski and husband John of Edwardsville, Bridget Willis and husband Richard of Centralia; grandchildren, Kristy Bingamon and special friend Kevin, James Middendorff Jr and wife Tori, Tarah Rottmann and husband Justin, Ryan Winter, Alec Winter, Kerne Benfield III and wife Amber, Ambrosia Savin and husband Matthew, and Tiffany Wilson; great-grandchildren, Olivia, Logan, Oliver, Connor, Dillon, Tyler, Jillian, Trinity, Noah, Adam, and Faith; siblings, Robert Flores and wife Benda of TX, Janice Timberlake of TX, Deborah Jonas-Riedlinger and husband Randall of TX, and Jerry Neal of AR; brother-in-law, Steven Herron of TX; and many nieces and nephews.

Barbara was preceded in death by her sister, Audrey Flores; brothers, Wilford Flores, James Flores & wife Dolly, and infant boy Flores; daughter, Lorene Sue Haar; and nephew, Danny Flores.

Barbara attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Centralia. She was a lady never afraid of hard work, and a loyal employee of Rockwell Meridian in Centralia for 19 years. Barbara had a true artistic ability that she loved to share with others. She loved to paint and create beauty with the flowers of her garden especially her roses. Barbara also enjoyed time in her vegetable garden caring for the plants and canning their wonderful flavors to be used after the season was finished. She was a huge animal lover, raising horses and showering her 4 dogs with attention. Barbara was fun, charismatic, and treasured time spent with her close friends. Her family will remember Barbara with her line in the water searching for the next big catch as she was an avid fisherman. Barbara cherished her time with her family above all and wanted her legacy of love to continue on through them.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, December 14, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Centralia with Father Dale Maxfield officiating. Immediately following the service a luncheon will follow at the Centralia Area Historical Museum. Interment will be at St. George Catholic Cemetery in New Baden. Family and friends are welcome to a visitation time with Barbara’s family from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Thursday, December 13, 2018 at the Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia. Memorial contributions may be made in Barbara’s honor to Siteman Cancer Center.
