William Bennett Scarborough, 98, passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at his home. He was born on October 24, 1920 in Centralia to Ben Thomas and Emma Grace (Collins) Scarborough. He married Ladonna Schnake and two children were born of this union, they later divorced. He then married Constance (Brooks) Scarborough on October 25, 1986 in Central City.

Ben is survived by his wife Connie of 32 years; sons, Michael and wife Sherry of Edwardsville, IL, and Allen of Centralia, IL; grandchildren, Lori of Wood River, IL, Natalie of Hawaii, Chris and wife Andrea, Jon and wife Jill both of Edwardsville, IL, Jeff of Centralia, IL, and Ashley of Bloomington, IL; great-grandchildren, Oscar, Leo, Jon; and two step-great-grandchildren, Ryle, and Reece.

Mr. Scarborough was preceded in death by both his parents, Thomas and Emma Scarborough; and his first wife Ladonna Schnake.

Ben served in WWII, 3rd Armored Division/1st Army with two MO’s, radio operator and mechanic. He worked at many auto dealerships and retired as a well known auto mechanic at Jim Wrape Buick in 1985. Ben loved to ride his motorcycle, fly planes, re-build old cars and motorcycles, and race stock cars.

Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia is in charge of arrangements. Per Ben’s wishes, he will be cremated and a small graveside service will be scheduled at a later date. Memorials may be made in Ben's honor to A.B.A.T.E. or CCBA Food Pantry and will be accepted at the funeral home.
