Allen Dale Gerrish, 79, of Centralia passed peacefully on Thursday, April 4, 2019 at Centralia Manor in Centralia surrounded by family. He was born the son of Claude and Blanche (Reeves) Gerrish on October 22, 1939 in Phoenix, AZ. He married the love of his life Marilyn Pitchford on October 21, 1960 at Fouts Christian Church in Irvington and she preceded him in death on March 28, 2012.

Allen was devoted to his family survivors include his loving daughter, Diane Lawrence and husband Hal of Centralia, IL; cherished granddaughter, Heather Crivilare and husband Andrew of Jacksonville, IL, caring brothers, Ron Gerrish and wife Mary of Pinckneyville, and Jack Gerrish and wife Hazel of Tucson, AZ; sister-in-law, Cathi Gerrish of Pinckneyville; brother-in-law, Alan Pitchford and wife Naomi of Centralia; special niece, Kerry Pitchford and BJ Lamb of Centralia, IL; great niece and nephew, Emma Kate Lamb and Caden Lamb both of Centralia, IL; many nieces nephews, and extended family.

Along with his wife of 52 years, Marilyn, Mr. Gerrish was preceded in death by both his parents Claude and Blanche Gerrish; infant sister, Donna Lee Gerrish; brothers, Jerry Gerrish, Lynn Gerrish; nephew, Mark Gerish; mother-in law and father-in-law, Roy and Vera (Ferguson) Pitchford.

Mr. Gerrish moved to Patoka as a small child and graduated from Patoka High School, Class of 1957. He attended business classes at Centralia Jr. College, using his degree to aid him in his work at Valley Steele in Centralia for over 30 years. He went on to work as a custodian at Rome Grade School in Dix, IL until retirement. Allen was a faithful member of Fouts Christian Church where he served as an elder and church treasurer. Allen also was the custodian for the church along with his wife for many years. Mr. Gerrish was not a man afraid of hard work, be it working in his yard or tinkering in his garage. Allen and his wife Marilyn shared a love of working in their flower and vegetable gardens together. He also was a collector of antique tractors and model cars. He could be found watching old western movies in his free time and cheering on his favorite team the St. Louis Cardinals from the comfort of his favorite chair. Allen was so very proud of his granddaughter Heather and loved being a Grandpa. The memories shared between Allen and his family and friends will be treasured and a comfort.

A celebration of life service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, April 8, 2019 at the Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia with Minister Jerry Wilson officiating. Interment will follow at Fouts Cemetery in Irvington. A visitation time will be held from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. Sunday, April 7, 2019 at the funeral home in Centralia, and an hour prior to services on Monday at funeral home. Memorials may be made in Allen’s honor to Fouts Christian Church or the American Parkinson Disease Association.
