Laura A. Garland, 83, of Centralia passed away peacefully with her family by her side, Sunday, May 26, 2019 at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia. She was born on December 31, 1935 the daughter of Murtha James and Mary (Leming) Doyle in Centralia. She married George Thomas Garland on September 12, 1953 and they later divorced. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include her devoted children, Steve Garland and wife Rhonda of Centralia, Jeff Garland of Centralia, and Julie Garland and Amber Burge of Ocala, FL; devoted daughters-in-law, Esty Garland of Centralia, Kristy Garner of Centralia; precious grandchildren, Joshua Garland and wife Crystal, Jordan Garland and Lauren Johannes, Zachary Garland, Shawn Thomas Garland and wife Jenny, Stephen Garland, and Michael Garland and wife Casi; cherished great-grandchildren, Ashlynn Garland, Makenzie Garland, Hudson Garland, Kristen Denton, Hannah Garland, Charlotte Garland, Noah Garland, Molly Garland, and Athena Williams; treasured great-great-grandchildren, Eli and Ezra Orrill; several special nieces and nephews; and good friend CJ Pigg and his two daughters, Laci and Daci.

Mrs. Garland was preceded in death by both her parents; sisters, Ethel Morris, Gladys Lorenzini, and Margaret Greathouse; children, JR Garland, Richard Dale Garland; and grandchild, John Robert Denton.


Laura was a warm and hospitable lady, making all she knew and loved feel special. She had a natural talent for gardening, nurturing and enjoying the beautiful flowers she grew. Laura liked to search for treasures at yard sales and made fun crafts in her spare time. Laura always believed there was nothing better than spending time with her family. Taking time to make memories with her children and grandchildren was top on her list. She also loved the St. Louis Cardinals, and cheered them on whenever they would play.


Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia is in charge of arrangements. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 P.M. Friday, May 31, 2019 at Hillcrest Memorial Park with Greg Hoffman officiating. Friends are welcome to a visitation time from 1:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. on Friday, May 31, 2019 at the Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia.
