Walter D. “Doc” Bryant, Sr., 72, of Centralia, IL passed away September 23, 2019. He was born on September 3, 1947 in Centralia, the son of Mattie Bradford and Jimmie Roan. He married the love of his life, Monica Fambro on November 21, 2003 in Salem, IL and she survives in Centralia.

Along with his beloved wife, Monica Bryant, survivors that will carry on treasured memories of Walter Bryant include his children, Thurman McClain of Alton, IL, Tonya Bush of Houston, TX, Lashanda Funches of Chicago, IL, Walter Bryant, Jr. of Vienna, IL, Tyra Dean (Joe) of Bloomington, IL, Aleah Johnson (Chris) of Annapolis, MD, Tommy Smith (Wendy) of Mt. Vernon, IL, Tashay Bell of Carbondale, IL, and “baby girl”, Latrice Bryant of Chicago, IL; 8 brothers, Curtis Bryant of San Francisco, CA, Richard Bryant (Shirley) of Mulberry Grove, IL, Raymond Bryant of Birmingham, AL, Thomas Bryant of Mt. Vernon, IL, Steve Bryant of KY, Otis Bryant of St. Louis, MO, Jimmy R. Bryant and wife Jeanne of St. Louis, MO, and Lonnie Marks and wife Debra; 1 sister, Daisy Sidney; 22 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 1 maternal aunt, Ophelia Burns; a host of aunts and uncles, and nieces and nephews.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Robert “Moose” Bryant, and Sam Bradford; daughter, LaDonna George; and grandson, Walter Bryant III.

Walter had a passion for sports, including basketball, football, and wrestling. He was a true people person and had a gift to make people laugh. He enjoyed being with family and friends and was loved by all who knew him. He accepted Christ into his life. Mr. Bryant proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1966-1968. He was released with an honorable discharge as a Sergeant. He was a member of the Centralia American Legion Post 446 and VFW 2055. He was a truck driver after his time in the service.

A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, October 5, 2019 at Greenview Christian Church in Centralia with Pastor Val Powe officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. until the time of the service on Saturday at the church. Military Rites will be accorded by the Centralia American Legion Post 446 and VFW 2055. Memorials may be made in Walter’s honor to the family's wishes.
