John Gazdik Jr., 73 of Walnut Hill passed away on Friday, October 4th, 2019 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in O’Fallon, IL. He was born in Chicago, IL son of John P. and Kathryn (Pellegrini) Gazdik. He married Linda Turkington, the love of his life and she survives in Walnut Hill.

In addition, Mr. Gazdik is survived by his sons, John A. Gazdik of Walnut Hill, Rick Gazdik and his financée Jessica Daiber of Athens, AL; his grandson, Ian Gazdik of Walnut Hill who was his pride and joy; special friend, who was like a son to him, Fritz Larkin; wonderful neighbors, Phil and Debbie Schwartz, and Beau Meyer. Also surviving is a sister, Andrea Uran of Aurora, CO; brother, Daniel Gazdik; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Turkington, Rose Ann Haverstick, and Diane Turkington; brother-in-law, Bob Turkington; special nephews, Roger and Gene Teitsort; and several other nieces and nephews. He was like a grandpa to Kayleigh and Chandler Skibinski, Paris Scott, Rachel Howard, and Mason Jones.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Doris Gazdik; and his in-laws, Mildred and Ed Turkington.

John was confirmed at St. Peter and Paul archdiocese in Chicago and asked Christ to come into his life. John was a brick mason and traveled all over the world. He loved sports, especially the Saint Louis Blues and was fortunate enough to see them with the Stanley Cup which he had waited for since 1969. He loved fishing and spending time with his golden retriever, Biscuit. He was a very hard worker, working even when he had health problems, and was always helping others. He was one in a million, the best of the best, and will be missed by all who knew him.

Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 12th at Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia with Pastor Donald Bigham officiating. Interment will follow at Little Grove Cemetery in Walnut Hill. Friends are welcome to a visitation time from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Baker Street Baptist Church in Walnut Hill or Christ Our Rock Lutheran High School in Centralia.
