Johnnie Leon “Buster” Whited, 65, of Patoka passed away Monday, December 9, 2019 at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia with his sister by his side. He was born on August 9, 1954 the son of John and Dorothy (Lewis) Whited in Salem. He married Ruth Cook in Salem and 3 sons were born of this union.

Survivors that will remember Johnnie’s big heart include his devoted sons, Jimmy Whited and wife Dee of Alabama, and Jerry Whited and significant other Chrystal of Centralia; 5 cherished grandchildren; caring sisters, Bonnie Lance and husband Rick Sr. of Sandoval, Brenda Whited and husband George of Mt. Vernon, and Linda Miller and husband Paul; and many special nieces and nephews.

Johnnie was preceded in death by both his parents, John and Dorothy Whited; sister, Zona Hill; son, John Curtis Whited; and nephew, Jamie Mulvanay.

Johnnie was of the Pentecostal faith and lived out his love for the Lord for all to see. He knew the value of a hard day’s work and had every little boys dream job of being a driver for the railroad. Johnnie loved the area where he lived and grew up taking advantage of the abundance of fish to be caught either out on the water in the boat or down by the dock at the water’s edge. He was a man that was always ready to lend a helping hand. Johnnie was considered a Mr. Fixit and had real skills that he was able to offer to Doctor’s Nursing Home during his stay there. He worked on cars, lawn mowers, and would restore what others would call junk, giving these items new life. Johnnie had a compassionate heart and a true love for his friends and family. His greatest achievement was to be called Grandpa by his cherished grandchildren. Johnnie’s life was an amazing example of a life well lived, and was filled with love.
