Orpha Mae Bruce, 104, of Columbia, IL formerly of Centralia, IL passed away peacefully Sunday, January 26, 2020 at Integrity Columbia Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Columbia, IL. She was born in Kell, IL on May 22, 1915 the daughter of Charles and Esther (Mount) Hawkins. She married Troy Bruce, of Dix, on June 22, 1935 in Princeton, IN and he preceded her in death on March 12, 1973.

Survivors remain that will always remember Orpha’s love for her family include her devoted children, Lindell Bruce and husband Yoshi of San Francisco, CA, Sharon Isselhardt and husband Warren “Butch” of Franklin, IN, Roger Bruce and wife Fran of Belleville, IL, and Dee Bruce and wife Ann of Pittsburg, PA; caring daughter-in-law, Janet Bruce of Centralia, IL; treasured grandchildren, Daron Bruce, Jeffrey Bruce and wife Jennifer, Andrew Fark, and Nathan Bruce; and precious great-grandchildren, Charley Fark, Benny Fark, and Colton Bruce.

Along with her husband of 37 years, Troy Bruce, Mrs. Bruce was preceded in death by both her parents, Charles and Esther Hawkins; son, Larry Bruce; sisters, Amelia, Malta, Opal, Neta, Ruby, and Ethel; and brothers, Earl, Arthur and Kelly.

Mrs. Bruce was a faithful member of Temple Baptist Church of Centralia where she found peace and comfort in her worship time. She could always be counted on to provide a delicious dish for church events and dinners at the church and caring for the babies in the nursery. She was a resident of Centralia, IL since the 1950’s and was proud to raise her family there. Orpha enjoyed attending activities to celebrate Centralia, especially the Balloon Fest and the Halloween Parade. In 2014 she did leave her home in Centralia, IL to reside at Columbia Nursing Home in Illinois where she made many friends with residents and the kind and caring staff. Orpha was blessed to be a full time homemaker and care for her family’s every need. Her family enjoyed her blackberry cobblers and pies she would bake. Orpha was an amazing and loyal friend and always treasured her time spent with her best friend Mona Bierman, sharing meals and good conversations. Orpha left a legacy of kindness and compassion for her family and friends to emulate.

Friends and family are welcome to a visitation time with Orpha’s family from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service at 11:30 A.M. on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at the Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia. A celebration of life service will follow the visitation at 11:30 A.M. Wednesday at Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia, Il with Pastor Ronnie Tabor officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Dix. Memorials may be made in Orpha’s honor to the activity department at Integrity Columbia Rehabilitation and Nursing Center and will be accepted at Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia.
