Mrs. Brenda J. Lawson of Centralia, Illinois was born in Centralia on June 4, 1940 to the union of Major and Marjorie (Lewis ) Wesley and departed this life on Saturday morning, June 13, 2020 at her home surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 80 years. She married Willie D. Lawson on October 12, 1968 in Centralia.

She was educated in the Centralia City Schools and later in life she resumed her education and obtained her G.E.D. through the Kaskaskia College Learning Center at Ricks Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church in Centralia.

She enjoyed reading a good novel and listening to her music which included a large selection of both gospel and secular, but particularly gospel. Another great joy was the time with her precious grandchildren. She retired after spending many years working in production at the Hollywood/Leaf Candy Company.

Left to cherish her passing are her devoted and loving children, Michele Starks, of Phoenix, AZ and Marlon Lawson at home; Shirlena Barnes of Centralia and Willitte Firley of Milwaukee, WI; a “Bonus Daughter” Wanda Barnes of Centralia; five brothers, Eddie Wesley of Centralia, Nathaniel Wesley of Centralia, Robert Wesley of Bloomington, IL, Stanley Wesley of Altamonte Springs, FL and Allison J. (A.J.) Wesley of Centralia; 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews, including a “special niece,” Nicole Wesley along with many friends.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Willie D. Lawson, a grandson, Marlon Lawson, Jr.; 2 sisters, Dorothy Walker and Dolphonso Hill; 5 brothers, James, Glen, Raymond, Arnold and Jerry.

Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia is privileged to be assisting the family of Brenda Lawson with arrangements. A private celebration of life will be held with Rev. Ronald Johnson officiating. Friends are welcomed to a visitation time from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 18, 2020 at the Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia where those in attendance are encouraged to wear a mask and the amount of people into the funeral home will be limited. Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Centralia where social distancing will be practiced. Memorials may be made in Brenda’s honor to the family’s wishes and will be accepted at the funeral home in Centralia.
