Sandra Kay “Sandy” Brumfield, 72, of Vandalia, formerly of Vernon passed away Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at Aperion Care in St. Elmo. She was born on May 1, 1948 the daughter of Marvin “Corky” and Mary “Belva” (Henry) Ehrat in Vandalia at Fayette County Hospital. She married her high school sweetheart, Gary Brumfield on April 6, 1968 in Vernon and he preceded her in death on December 15, 2019.

Survivors that will remember Sandy’s warm smile include her devoted nieces and nephews, Myra Pessina (Mike), Travis Miller (DeeAnna), Kyle Miller (Shea McGinnitey), Kindra Ehrat (Josh Carey), Bryant Ehrat, Kenny Brumfield, Pam Crawford, and Angie Gathe; loving great-nieces and great-nephews, Courtney Fallon Vail, Jacob Pessina, Morgan Pessina, Kaity Miller, Brayden Miller, Evan Miller, Hannah Miller, Hunter Carey; siblings, Carolyn Miller (Ken), Max Ehrat (Kathy); brother-in-law, Bob Thalman; sister-in-law, Carol Brumfield; and many special extended family members and friends.

Sandy was preceded in death by her father, Marvin Ehrat; her mother, Belva Lee (Ehrat) Daniels and husband C.R. Daniels; aunts, Ruby Henry, and Daisy Blalock; nephew, Harold Blalock; sisters-in-law, Virginia Thalman, and Shirley Brumfield; and brothers-in-law, Bill Brumfield, and Burl Brumfield.

Sandy was a proud graduate of Patoka High School class of 1966. She looked up to her mother, Belva and studied to be a beautician under her. Sandy will be remembered for sharing friendly greetings with the patrons of Patoka First National Bank where she worked as a dedicated bank teller for 47 years, from 1968 until her retirement in 2015. She was the local children’s favorite as she never forgot to pass out suckers when the kids came to the bank with their family. She had a special bond with her nieces and nephews and was like a second mother to each of them, making sure to be involved in their lives. Sandy enjoyed caring for and watching the bluebirds and butterflies that would visit her beautifully manicured lawn. She loved decorating with flowers for every season and adorning her house with “pretties”. Sandy was known for her love of shopping and was a very fashionable and trendy dresser. She and Gary moved to Vandalia and built their home in 2003. The couple was excited to be instrumental in the design of this beautiful house that they made their home. Sandy and Gary were blessed with a wonderful marriage and they liked to go to horse pulls together. Sandy thought of her time with family and friends as precious and those memories will live on as her vibrant spirit will be deeply missed.
