Carlin Ruth Thomas, 93, of Sandoval passed away peacefully Saturday, May 23, 2026, surrounded by her family, at her daughter-in-law’s home in Sandoval. She was born on September 30, 1932, in Kinmundy, the daughter of Merle and Mary (Hanna) Hanks. She married Earl Sinclair, and he preceded her in death. She married Harold Thomas, and he also preceded her in death.

Survivors include her children, Judy (Raymond) Martin of TN, Randy (Lavona) Sinclair of Sandoval; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Sinclair of Sandoval; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Joann Logue of Peoria, Marilyn (Jerry) Blankinship of Peoria; sister-in-law, Linda Hanks of Du Quoin; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Along with both her husbands, Carlin was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Mark Hanks, Scott Hanks, David Hanks; sister, Roberta Carpenter; half-sister, Hilda Webb; and sons, Benjamin Sinclair, David Sinclair.

Carlin was not afraid of hard work. She used her talent for sewing while at Miss Elaine’s Dress Factory in Centralia, where she was a loyal and dependable employee. Carlin was a strong lady of faith and member of Bethel Baptist Church in Odin, where she encouraged her church family with her trust in Jesus. She was a wonderful cook, well known for her delicious home-made rolls and chocolate pie.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 29, 2026, at Peaceful Valley Cemetery in Odin with Pastor Kevin Cox officiating. Memorials may be made in Carlin’s honor to Bethel Baptist Church and will be accepted for her family at the Day Macz Funeral Home in Sandoval.
