Obituary

Dorris A. Black, age 86, of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, formerly of Irvington, Illinois, passed away at 5:15 P.M. on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at the Mt. Vernon Health Care Center in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. She was born May 20, 1927 in Marissa, Illinois, the daughter of James William and Eva Estella (Bilderback) Harriman. She married Lester W. "Les" Black on March 18,1967 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois and he preceded her in death on December 19, 2001. Mrs. Black is survived by her 2 sons Mike Geralds and wife Brenda of Cravat, Illinois, Rick Roeder of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, 4 daughters Melba Knox and husband Junior of Woodlawn, Illinois, Debbie Bean and husband Lloyd of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, Marcia Irvin and husband Robert of Bonnie, Illinois and Melinda Warren and special friend Norman Moulton of Centralia, Illinois, 8 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, 2 brothers Ralph Harriman and wife Doris June of Eldorado, Illinois and Roy Harriman and wife Thelma of Irvington, Illinois and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband of 34 years, Mrs. Black was preceded in death by her parents, 1 son Floyd "Toby" Scott, 1 grandson Mark Knox, 1 granddaughter Theresa Scott, 1 brother James Russell Harriman and 6 sisters Hazel Thompson, Patsy Handsbury, Thelma Harriman, Iris Mezel, Willa Mae Geralds and Martha Shevlin. Mrs. Black was a member of Teamsters Local # 50. She enjoyed playing Bingo and cards. She was one to go mushroom hunting and antiquing. Earlier in life, she liked to go fishing. She lived in Mt. Vernon, Illinois for the last 6 years and previously lived in Irvington, Illinois since 1967. Mrs. Black was employed by the Hollywood Candy Company in Centralia, Illinois as an assembly line feeder for 22 years until her retirement in 1989. Celebration of Life Services will be at 12:00 noon on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at the Moran Queen-Boggs Funeral Home in Centralia, Illinois with Mr. Daniel Roy Harriman officiating. Interment will follow in Richview Township Cemetery in Richview, Illinois. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 12:00 noon at the funeral home. Memorial Contributions may be made in Mrs. Black honor to the American Cancer Society and will be received by the funeral home.
