Ed Orrell

Edward Lewis "Ed" Orrell Sr. , 88, of Carlyle passed away Sunday, November 10, 2024, at his home. He was born on July 23, 1936, the son of Charles "Mannie"and Maudine (Knutt) Orrell in Boulder. He married Janet Meyer on April 18, 1971, in Belleville and she preceded him in death on November 2, 2022.
Survivors include his son, Ed "Tater" Orrell Jr. and wife Beth of Shattuc; his grandchildren, Bethany Orrell, Josh Orrell, Joe Orrell, Jessica Orrell; his sisters, Violet Cummins, and Nadine Shepard and husband Bob; his sister-in-law, Carol Orrell; his special friend, Carla Booher; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Along with his wife of 51 years, Janet Orrell, Ed was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Ann Fields, and Donna Orrell; brothers, Sherman Orrell, and Butch Orrell; his brother-in-law, Johnny Bob Cummins; and his children, Vickie Orrell, and Charlie Orrell.
Ed was a hard worker and a 71 year member of the Laborer's Union, Local 100. He liked to keep busy, raising and caring for rabbits and chickens on his farm. Ed looked forward to hunting season, excited to search for a nice size doe or buck, and sharing stories with his hunting buddies. He was grateful to live so close to so many great places to go and catch a good mess of fish. Ed liked working with his son, Tater on his son's tractors, prepping them for success and sure victory in tractor pulls. Gramps, as his cherished grandkids called him, was undefeated in the tractor pulls he competed in, all over the country. He liked going to and searching for treasures at auctions. He never forgot to give a friendly wave at vehicles passing by while he was out for a drive through the country with his dogs, Dink, Susie, and Lucky. Ed was a genuine, down to earth, good man who was well known for his passionate story telling abilities. He was truly loved and will be deeply missed by all his family and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held at a later date by his family. Memorials may be made in Ed's honor to Clark Cemetery and will be accepted for his family at Day Macz Funeral Home in Patoka.
