Florence Murray, age 90, of Centralia, Illinois, passed away at 9:46 A.M. on Monday, February 29, 2016, at SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital in Centralia, Illinois.  She was born February 23, 1926 in Brooklyn, New York, daughter of Max and Sylvia (Katz) Sokolsky.  She married Varlyn Glen Murray on November 11, 1944 in Saint Louis, Missouri and he preceded her in death on July 29, 1979.

Mrs. Murray is survived by her sons, David A. Murray of Centralia, Illinois and James A. Murray and wife Vickie of Salt Lake City, Utah, daughter, Sharon L. Miller of Centralia, Illinois, 17 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren and 1 sister Lorraine Levi of Brooklyn, New York.

In addition to her husband of 34 years, Mrs. Murray was preceded in death by her parents, daughters, Ann Garren and Shelby Sumner, grandsons, Jeffrey Murray and Billy Ray Murray, granddaughter, Nola Garren and son-in-law, Stephen Miller.

Mrs. Murray was a member of the Temple Solomon in Centralia, Illinois.  She was also a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary in Centralia, Illinois.  She loved to go to rummage sales and her license plate reflected that passion as it read PAC RAT 7.  She enjoyed sewing. Mrs. Murray cherished the time she spent with her family.

Mrs. Murray retired from Woolworths in Centralia, Illinois.  She was previously employed at Toppers Apparel and the Dress Factory in Centralia, Illinois.  Earlier in life, she was a welder at the Brooklyn Navy Yards, where she met her husband.  She has lived most of her life in Centralia, Illinois.
