Obituary

Gary N. "Rock" Bertges , 78, of Cahokia, IL, formerly of Centralia passed away Saturday, September 7, 2019 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. He was born on June 5, 1941 the son of John E. and Elsie (Winter) Bertges in Centralia, IL. He married Michele George on July 2, 1960 and they later divorced. He then married Peggy Davidson and they later divorced. In July of 1978 he married Adonica Iverson.

Survivors include his wife Adonica Iverson of Sparks, Nevada; his ex-wife and caregiver Michele Phillips of Cahokia; loving children, Cheri (Bertges) Eddings of Cahokia, IL, Brie Bertges and husband Ryan Wuebbles of Sparks, NV, Blaine Bertges of Reno, NV; precious grandchildren, Chase Eddings and wife Melody of Cahokia, IL, Brayden and Landon Wuebbles of Sparks, NV, Elaina & Allison O'Donnell of Rantoul, IL; cherished great-granddaughter, Macey Eddings of Cahokia, IL; treasured nieces, Katrina and Jennifer Little of Rantoul, IL who he loved like daughters; as well as several more beloved nieces and nephews.

Rock was preceded in death by both his parents; and brother, John I. Bertges.

Rock attended Centralia High School where he showed off his athletic abilities on both the football field and baseball field. In 1958, he was awarded as an all-star for Centralia High School. Rock enjoyed spending time outdoors, camping and fishing at Kaskaskia River where he made sure to never wear shoes. Rock was an animal lover as well and was very partial to Border Collies. There truly are not enough words to describe what an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan Rock was. To watch the games and cheer his favorite players on to victory brought him so much joy. His family will remember the fun and carefree times they shared together.

Friends are welcome to a visitation time from 12:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. Monday, September 16, 2019 at the Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia. A graveside service at Hillcrest Memorial Park in rural Sandoval will immediately follow at 2:30 P.M. with Doctor Andy DeWitt officiating. Memorials may be made in Rock's honor to the Centralia Humane Society or Irvin Macz Funeral Home to aid the family with expenses.
