Homer Wilbur Meadows, age 92, of Centralia, Illinois, passed away at 7:30 A.M. on Sunday, November 3, 2013 at Centralia Fireside House in Centralia, Illinois. He was born on March 28, 1921 in Centralia, Illinois, the son of George and Dora (Neabuhr) Meadows. He married Imogene W. Leneave on March 19, 1946 and she preceded him in death on December 21, 1998.
Mr. Meadows is survived by 2 sons Daniel J. Meadows and wife Lavada of Woodlawn, Illinois and Laurence "Doc" Meadows and friend Kathy Berck of Centralia, Illinois, 1 daughter Connie Tolley and husband Ron of Salem, Illinois, 6 grandchildren Jennifer Barton and husband David, Aimee Dalton and husband Travis, Jonathan Tolley, Alyssa Tolley, Jodi Tolley and Alex Tolley, 1 step grandson Danny McPhail and wife Chris, several great grandchildren and 1 sister Wilma Boyd of Champaign, Illinois.
In addition to his wife of 52 years, Mr. Meadows was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers George Meadows, Clifford Dale Meadows and Carthel Meadows, 3 sisters Opal Burton, Laura Fuller and Mildred Claybourn and 1 step grandson Bobby McPhail.
Mr. Meadows was a loyal church goer and was a member of the Apostolic Deliverance Tabernacle Church in Shiloh, Illinois. He was an U.S. Army Veteran serving during World War II from September 3, 1942 until November 25, 1945. He served in five battles during his service to his country including Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. Mr. Meadows was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed music and could play any instrument by ear. He liked to tinker with just about anything, including cars and also liked animals. He loved the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Mr. Meadows was a retired civil service employee of Scott Air Force Base. He has lived most of his life in Centralia, Illinois.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at 12 Noon at the Moran Queen~Boggs Funeral Home in Centralia, Illinois with Pastor Deby Klein officiating. Interment will follow in Boyd Cemetery in Boyd, Illinois with Military Honors accorded by the Centralia V.F.W. Post 2055 and American Legion Post 446. Friends may call from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services at 12 Noon on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at the Moran Queen~Boggs Funeral Home in Centralia, Illinois.
