Obituary

Janie Paulette (Quick) Walker, 72, of Patoka passed away Wednesday, August 26, 2026, surrounded by loved ones, at her home. She was born on June 20, 1954, the daughter of Earl and Joan (Jones) Quick. She married Bill Walker in Vandalia on April 19, 1996, and he survives her in Patoka.

Along with her devoted husband, Bill Walker, survivors that will remember Janie’s deep love for her family include her children, Jeff (Cassie) Huffman of Boulder, IL James (Tera) Huffman of Pensacola, FL, Paula (Jason) Copple of Vernon, IL, Joe Huffman of Boulder, IL, Nicolas Walker of Hopkinsville, KY, and Jacob Walker of Uma, AZ; stepchildren, Lisa Williams of OK, Chris Walker of Edwardsville, IL, and Laura Walker of Uma, AZ; grandchildren, River, Piper and Tucker Huffman, Michael (Sam) Huffman, Mackanzie Huffman, Brayden (Taylor) Huffman, Jayla Copple, Justin Copple, Tyler Huffman, Nate Williams, Trey Williams, Scott (Brie) Hull, Cody Walker, and Elyssa Miles; great-grandchildren, Ambrose and Oliver Huffman, Hayden, Christina, Josi, Addlynn and Remi Hull, Autumn and Hayden Walker, and Rylan Miles; siblings, Earla Clark, Albert (Cathy) Quick, Betty “Beaner” (Tom) Brumfield, and Susie (Bryan) Cain; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Luke (Carol) Walker, Bob (Penny) Walker, Mary Lou Adams, and Claudia (Dale) Hicks; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Janie was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Joan Quick; her father and mother-in-law, Luke and Genevieve Walker; her granddaughter, Josie Walker; her grandson, Jesse Copple; her brother, Maurice Dean Quick; and her brother-in-law, Leon Walker.

Janie was the heart and soul of her home and her family. Her most joyous times were spending the day surrounded by her family, laughing and telling stories. Janie looked forward to camping trips, time around the campfire and enjoying the beauty of nature. She was extremely talented when it came to quilting, and she gifted many of her pieces to grateful family and friends. Janie loved watching her hummingbirds dart around her feeders. She was welcoming to all, enjoyed the simple things in life, and was grateful for the love and support of her family and friends. Janie’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her, and many wonderful memories will be a comfort.

A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, 29, 2026, at the Day Macz Funeral Home in Patoka with Pastor Bumper Quick officiating. Interment will follow at Bear Creek Cemetery in rural Patoka. Relatives and friends are welcome to the visitation from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made in Janie’s honor to the Patoka Fire and Ambulance Service.
