Obituary

John W. Busscher passed away on March 23, 2026, in Mount Vernon, Illinois.

He was born to his parents, William J. and Claire “Pat” Busscher on November 27, 1955, in Centralia, Illinois.

John married JoAnna Young on April 15, 1989, in Las Vegas, Nevada. She preceded him in death on April 10, 2025. He was also preceded in death by parents; maternal and paternal grandparents; and brother-in-law, Ben Sloat.

Surviving John are his sisters, Terry Sloat of Cynthiana, Kentucky, Susie (Kenny) Coughlin of Centralia, Illinois; his brothers, Michael Busscher of Kirbysville, Missouri, and Joseph Busscher of Odin, Illinois; special nieces, Brandi Hill, Cindi Batson, Heather Hart, and Britton Dye; cherished nephews, Adam Anderson, and Matthew Busscher; John also had several great-nieces and nephews.

John attended St. Lawrence Catholic School and was a graduate of Sandoval High School and Kaskaskia College. He worked at Rockwell International for many years until its closing and retired from Amerigas. After retirement, you could find John where the fish were biting.

Per John’s wishes, he was cremated, with Macz Funeral Homes in Centralia assisting the family. Private family interment will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park on May 15, 2026. A mass will be held in John’s honor at 8:00 a.m. Sunday, June 7, 2026. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in John’s honor to the Sandoval Public Library or the Centralia Humane Society and will be accepted for his family at the Irvin Macz Funeral Home 234 South Elm Street Centralia, IL 62801.
