Larry Allen Garrison , 72, of Centralia passed away Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at John Cochran Veterans Hospital in St. Louis, MO. He was born on April 26, 1948 the son of James and Ruth (True) Garrison in Mt. Vernon.
Survivors include his beloved family, brother, Jack Garrison (Shelby) of Walnut Hill; sisters, Bonnie Cleveland of Bourbonnais, Sharon Harlan of Saucier, Mississippi, and Vicki Burton of Lafayette, IN; and his sweetheart and love, Tena Burton of Centralia; and nieces and nephews. Larry was preceded in death by both his parents, James and Ruth Garrison.
Mr. Garrison served his country with honor and pride in the United States Army during the Vietnam era from 1968-1969. It was during this time that Larry was recognized as a true hero to his country, earning a purple heart. He worked as an electrician at Electro Motive before working in the oil fields. Larry also, was able to use his talents in a body shop in Mt. Vernon. He had the amazing ability to bring tractors back to their original glory, bringing him great satisfaction. Larry loved to be in the outdoors, growing abundant gardens, making sure to share his bounty with friends and family. He also took advantage of the beauty and peace nature had to offer while fishing and relaxing around a campfire while camping. Larry leaves behind friends and family that are so grateful for the wonderful memories of good times spent together.
Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia is privileged to be assisting the family of Larry Garrison with arrangements. A celebration of life service will be held privately.
