Roger Gruen , 71, of Sandoval passed away Monday, August 15, 2022. He was born on March 16, 1951, the son of Ervin and Nancy (Garwood) Gruen in Witt. He married the love of his life Karen Stokes on August 25, 1969, and she survives in Sandoval.
Along with his devoted wife of 52 years, survivors include his beloved family, daughter Lori Gruen of Sandoval; sons Douglas (Chrystal) Gruen of Centralia, and Glenn (Rebecca) Gruen of Centralia; grandchildren Elizabeth (Bryan) Preston, Christine (Jeremiah) Kniker, Angela Gruen, Dakota Gruen, Blaine Gruen, Cole Dodson, Karlie (Josh) Patton, and Matthew Kibler; great-grandchildren Eli, Earo and Holt Kniker, Miles Gruen, Hayden Patton, Graceigh Patton, Chase Patton, and Creed Patton; brother Wesley Gruen; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Forrest (Virginia) Stokes, Orville Stokes, Rickey Stokes, Jason Stokes, Billy (Bobby) Stokes, Diana Stephens, Stella Stokes; a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and extended family members and friends.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents; sister Karen Sue Gruen; brothers Johnny (Diane) Gruen, Ralph Gruen, James Bingham, and Roy (Laura) Gruen; granddaughter Montana Gruen; brothers-in-law Danny Stephens, George Stokes, Darrell Stokes
Roger was proud to serve his country with honor in the United States Airforce, serving stateside as a medic during the Vietnam war time. He was a proud member of the American Legion and held his service time in the highest regard. Roger was a loyal employee of Napic for many years. He later served the Village of Sandoval for 15 years before his retirement. Roger loved the outdoors, especially time doing yardwork and enjoying a good cigar in his "mancave", his shed at his home. He will be remembered for his Christmas Spirit, putting together, and displaying festive decorations every Christmas for his family and neighbors to enjoy. Roger took time to escape into the pages of a good book and loved to watch science fiction movies. He was an amazing PaPa and loved nothing more than spending time spoiling his grandkids. Roger will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.
Roger's family has chosen to honor his life privately. Memorials may be made in Roger's honor to the Family's Wishes and will be accepted at the Day Macz Funeral Home.
