Obituary

Roy Leon Bowen, 90, of Sandoval passed away Monday, August 10, 2020 at Stonebridge Nursing Home in Benton. He was born on August 30, 1929 the son of Charles Irvon and Harriet Matilda (Terry) Bowen in Fairman. He married Margaret Thomas on January 1, 1948 in Sandoval and she preceded him in death on February 25, 2008. Survivors include his beloved children, Marcia Dill and husband William of Benton,Roy Stephen Bowen and wife Pam of Kinmundy, and Bruce Bowen of Valier; cherished grandchildren, Nicholas and Kelly Dill, Nathaniel and Alexis Dill, Amy Bowen, Jasmine Charlton, Tai and Justin Landreth, Rachel Heicher, Elicia and Gary Cooper, Bri and Curt Rodgers, Ryan Bowen, Sheila Cardin, Kara and James Featherstone, Emily and BJ Ingram, Melanie Cardin, Kaleb and Rebecca Cardin, and Cody Bowen; 27 amazing great-grandchildren; and 3 precious great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Don Bowen, Erma Peterson, and Larry Bowen; many special nieces and nephews. Along with his wife of 60 years, Margaret Bowen, Mr. Bowen was preceded in death by both his parents; sister, Helen Moody; brothers, Eldon Bowen, Glen Bowen, Leo Bowen, Ray Bowen, and Burl Bowen; daughters, Janet Leek and Trudy Cardin; grandson, Jason Wayne Bowen. Mr. Bowen was born and raised in Fairman, Illinois where he had a job at the Fairman Store, and Thomas General Store in Sandoval. He later worked for the Corps of Engineers at Rend Lake and raised his family in Southern Illinois. Known as a family man, Roy took pride in providing and being there for his family. He was of the Baptist faith. Roy enjoyed woodworking and created many pieces his family treasures. He knew the value of hard work and took excellent care of his garden, raising the best vegetables, and sharing his bounty with family and friends. He called Kinmundy home for 20 years and made lasting friendships there. Roy will be deeply missed by his family and friends, and they will continue to share fond memories of his wonderful life. Day Macz Funeral Home in Sandoval is privileged to be assisting the family of Roy Bowen with arrangements. A celebration of life service will be held at Noon, Friday, August 14, 2020 at the Day Macz Funeral Home in Sandoval with Pastor Larry Miller officiating. Those in attendance will be limited to 50 people at one time and masks should be worn. Interment will follow at Harrison Cemetery in rural Patoka. A visitation time will be held from 11:00 A.M. until the time of the service on Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made in Roy's honor to Harrison Cemetery and will be accepted at the funeral home.
