Shirley J. Lewis, 80, of Centralia went to meet her Savior, Sunday, November 24, 2019. She was born on February 7, 1939 the seventh child of Stacy Dean Sr. and Morena "Rena" Esther (Jones) Milburn in rural Iuka. She married her sweetheart, Ronald "Ronnie" Lewis on July 4, 1962 in Sandoval and he preceded her in death on November 22, 2000.
Survivors remaining that hold treasured memories of Shirley include her 3 beloved children, Donald E. Lewis and wife Penny of Centralia, Terri L. Smith and significant other Roger Zimmerman of Centralia, and Susan Lewis and significant other Chad Lindner of Nashville; cherished grandchildren, William Timms, Stephen Timms and significant other Rachel, Billie Cole, and Christopher Guern; dear greatgrandchildren, Carson and Rosalie; caring siblings, Stacy "Dean" Milburn Jr. and wife Myra of Salem, Bessie Milburn of Centralia, Geneva Millner and husband Bob of Centralia, and Ruth Presswood of Centralia; kind brother-in-law, Eugene Boyles of Salem; many nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews, many cousins and friends. Along with her husband of 38 years, Ronnie Lewis, Shirley was preceded in death by both her parents Stacy Sr. and Rena Milburn; Ronnie's parents, Charles and Genevieve Lewis; sisters Frances Woodward and husband Robert, Bertha Boyles, Lena Klanke and husband John, and Ruby Ghere and husband Bill; brothers, George Milburn Sr. and wife Mary, and Laurence "Brutus" Milburn; niece, Mia (Woodward) and husband Bob Robertson; nephews, Perry Dean Boyles, Fred Klanke, and Bill Ghere Jr.; Ronnie's family that preceded Shirley in death, Earl Lewis, Mary Jane Lewis, Chuck Lewis and wife Betty, Dorothy Whited and husband John, Kenny Lewis and wife Vonda, and Bill Lewis.
Shirley attended Hebron Country School and Iuka Grade School. The family moved to Sandoval the Summer of 1952; and Shirley completed her education there, graduating in 1958. Upon completion of her education, Shirley moved to St. Charles, IL where she met the love of her life, Ronnie Lewis, who was also a native of Sandoval.
She worked at National Electronics in St. Charles. Shirley, Ronnie, and children Donnie and Terri moved back to Sandoval the Summer of 1971. Approximately six months later, they moved to Centralia where they raised their three children. Having moved back to this area, Shirley worked at the Dress Factory four years, and then at Littelfuse for 25 years, retiring in 2001. Shirley became a Christian at an early age, and loved to share her faith and beautiful smile with everyone. She deeply enjoyed attending Church, singing God's praises, and signing as she and others sang.
She was a member of the Odin General Baptist, but later attended the Church of God at 15th street and Pine, now known as New Destiny. Shirley and Ronnie loved to bowl, fish, and hunt squirrels. Shirley enjoyed visiting her brothers, sisters, and their families and friends. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, November 29, 2019 at Day Macz Funeral Home in Sandoval with Pastor Larry Morse and Cora Oehmke officiating. Interment will follow at Sandoval Cemetery in Sandoval. Friends are welcome to a visitation time from 11:00 A.M. until the time of the service at 1:00 P.M. on Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Shirley's honor to the American Diabetes Association.
