Thomas S. "Cotton" Heath, Jr., age 93, of Centralia, Illinois, passed away at 1:36 P.M. on Monday, June 9, 2014 at St. Mary's Hospital in Centralia, Illinois. He was born April 10, 1921 in Paducah, Kentucky, the son of Thomas S. Sr. and Audra (Colvin) Heath. He married Wilma June Hanks on October 14, 1946 in Paducah, Kentucky and she survives in Centralia, Illinois.
In addition to his wife of 67 years, Mr, Heath is survived by a sister-in-law Nancy Temple of Louisville, Kentucky, 2 nieces Tracy Friedlein of Louisville, Kentucky and Melissa Pederson and husband Jeff of Fort Sill, Oklahoma, 1 nephew Tom Temple and wife Sheena of California, 2 great nieces Madeline Pederson of Oklahoma and Sarah Pederson of Oklahoma and 2 great nephews Westin Temple of California and Brandon Temple of California.
Mr. Heath was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Darlene Heath and half brother Deward Colvin.
Mr. Heath was a member of First United Methodist Church in Centralia, Illinois. He was an U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II and was stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He was a member of the Centralia American Legion Post # 446 and Centralia Elks B.P.O.E Lodge # 493. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, playing the keyboard and flying model airplanes.
Mr. Heath retired on May 1, 1982 as a supervisor from the Illinois Central Railroad after 41 years of service. He was a life long resident of Centralia, Illinois and previously lived in Paducah, Kentucky.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at the Moran Queen-Boggs Funeral Home in Centralia, Illinois with Reverend Rusty Beals officiating. Interment will follow in Maplelawn Park Cemetery in Paducah, Kentucky with a graveside service at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday. Friends may call from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Friday, June 13, 2014 at the funeral home. Memorial Contributions may be made in Mr. Heath's honor to the Charity of Donor's Choice and will be received at the Moran Queen-Boggs Funeral Home in Centralia, Illinois, Online condolences of sympathy may be left for Mr. Heath's family on Facebook.
