Alfred Starr Obituary

Alfred E. Starr, 99, of Centralia, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 21, 2022, at Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville Indiana, with family beside him holding his hands. 


He was born on June 26, 1923, the son of Charlie P. and Mabel (Kirkland) Starr in Centralia. He married Lucille Smith on September 25, 1941, and she preceded him in death on October 22, 1997. Alfred later married Betty Reynolds on August 11, 2007, and she survives.


Alfred is survived by two sons David Starr and wife Nancy of Flora, and Stephen Starr and wife Gloria of Texas; two step-daughters Jo Etta Phillips and husband Paul of Ohio, and Connie Sinclair and husband Mike of Centralia.


Alfred was blessed to live and enjoy his five generations with his immediate family. He had 6 grandchildren Kim Alli and husband Sam of Centralia, Craig Starr and wife Iris of Texas, Patrick Starr and wife Megan and Noah Starr of Nevada, Kevin Starr and Stephanie Walters and husband Paden of Texas. He also had two step-grandchildren Peter Phillips of Ohio, and Joe Sinclair of Salem. He was blessed with nine great-grandchildren Britni Powless and husband Tyler of Iuka, Anna, Gracy and Samantha Alli of Centralia, Joy and James Starr of Texas, Diclan and McKenna Starr of Nevada, Brody Starr of Texas; three step-great-grandchildren Taylor Penock of Centralia, and Tyler and Jessica Phillips of Virginia. Alfred also had three great-great-grandchildren Matthew, Katee and Jakob Sellers of Iuka; and two step- great-grandchildren Jude and Sawyer Penock of Centralia.


Preceding him in death was his father and mother; three brothers Milton Starr, Lloyd Starr and Bob Starr all of Centralia; and two sisters Georgia Shadowens of Christopher, and Isabelle Brockschmidt of Arizona.


Mr. Starr was a retired carpenter and contractor in Centralia and made and donated many of his wood craft items to local churches, families, and friends. He enjoyed his life to the fullest and his family remembers and cherishes his legacy he has left each of them.


He served his country in World War II while in the Army. He was a member of Calumet Christian Church in Centralia and often attended his son’s church, Community Southern Baptist in Clay City. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge 201 and Shriner of Centralia.


A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 26, 2022, at the Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia with Pastor Dave Starr officiating. Masonic Rites Centralia Lodge 201 Service at 10:50A.M. with a Shriners walk through to follow. Mr. Starr’s final resting place will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park in rural Sandoval, where military rites will be accorded by the Centralia VFW Post 2055 and American Legion Post 446. Friends and relatives are welcome to a visitation time from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Sunday, September 25, 2022, and 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday at the funeral home in Centralia. In honor of his wishes, memorial contributions may be made to the Donor’s Choice and they will be accepted for the family at the funeral home.
