Barbara Patterson Obituary

Barbara J. “Barb” Patterson, 77, of Sandoval passed away Thursday, January 20, 2022, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. She was born on April 8, 1944, the daughter of Ben and Oeta (Veller) Jourdan in Junction City. She married her sweetheart and best friend, Michael Patterson on May 25, 1962, in Junction City at the Glenridge Baptist Church and he survives in Sandoval.

Along with her devoted husband of 59 years, Michael Patterson, Barbara is survived by her beloved children Michael J. Patterson, Jr. and wife Kami of Corydon, Kentucky, and Michelle Lammers and her husband Allan of Sandoval; daughter-in-law Kelly Patterson of Oswego, New York; cherished grandchildren Jared Patterson and wife Jillian, Ben Patterson and wife Melanie, Katie Patterson, Andrea Schoettmer and husband Brian, Matthew Lammers and wife Taysha, Angie Leek and husband Aaron, Jessica Boleyjack and husband Chanston, Chloe Patterson, Brad Patterson, and Ashley Patterson; granddaughter-in-law Jenna Lammers; great-grandchildren Ezekiel, Samuel, Caelynn, Shea, Zane, Cruz, Knox, Logan, Taylor, Luke, Madison, Blake, Allison, Noah, Alayna, Mia, Layla; brother Ben P. Jourdan and wife Carole of Sandoval; sister Dodie Bell and husband Wayne of Carterville; special nieces, nephews Wendy, Lisa, Rich, Jon, Beth, Amy, and Emily; and a host of cousins, and extended family.

Barb was preceded in death by her parents Ben and Oeta Jourdan; and her son Mark Patterson.

Barb was a true servant to her Lord and Savior Jesus and while living her life for Him her wish was for everyone to come to know the joy of His gift of salvation. She was a faithful member of the Glenridge Baptist Church in Junction City where she taught Sunday School for 60 years and happily volunteered her time with the youth group. She was the church clerk for over 20 years and was honored to serve the church alongside her husband Michael. She was a beautiful singer and loved to share her love of music with others. Barb was an independent lady with a “can do” attitude and there was not one thing that was impossible for her. She was an accomplished sewer, and an amazing cook making everyone’s mouth water with her homemade blueberry buckle, cinnamon rolls, pies, and cookies. Barb had a green thumb and grew beautiful flower gardens, and bountiful vegetable gardens that offered her a way to can all those fresh flavors of summer. She was an animal advocate and cared for all animals, taking care of strays, and raising and selling parrots and other birds. She was so very proud to be a grandma and her grandchildren filled her heart with joy and blessings. Barb had a tender heart, was gentle, was always kind and her life pointed to Jesus as she gave Him all the glory and let His light shine through her.
