Rebecca “Becky” A. Zimmerman, 79, of Vernon, passed away March 24, 2026, at home. She was born the daughter of Darrel and Joyce (Hathaway) Zimmerman in Vandalia.
Survivors to carry on Becky’s loving spirit include her beloved daughter Tina (Kevin Rogers) Burton of St. Louis, Missouri; Brother Larry Zimmerman, wife Kay of Central City; cherished great-grandchildren Bella, Lukas, Daxton, and Nolan; and a host of cousins and family friends.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, and grandson Dusty Garner.
Becky was a former office specialist at Murray Center for 33 years, having retired in 2002. Becky passed away leaving behind memories that reflect a life uniquely her own. Outside of her work she could easily be found getting lost in the pages of a good book or listening to her favorite band play music. She had a deep affection for animals and especially cats. She shared her home with her beloved feline companions and had a soft heart for any strays in need. Her home became a safe haven for many over the years. Becky will be remembered for independence, the quiet ways she connected with those around her, and the care she gave for those who cannot care for themselves.
A private graveside service will be held at Vernon Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Becky’s honor may be made to the Vernon Cemetery or Centralia Humane Society and are accepted at Macz Funeral Homes who is honored to be in care of services.
