Billy Joe Moore, 78, of Odin passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family, Tuesday, October 9, 2024, at his home. He was born on August 12, 1946, the son of Louie and Vivian (Gibbs) Moore at his family’s home in Odin. He married Reta Nix in April of 1969, and she preceded him in death in 2013.
Survivors include his beloved family, his children, Dee Planitz (Joe), Billy Moore (Lisa), and Sonya Moore; cherished grandchildren, Michael Miller (Mary), Nicholas McConnaughay (Beccah), Scott Moore (Brittany), Madison, Cameron and Aspen Planitz, and Zach & Gracie Moore; precious great-grandchildren, Maddux Moore, Sam Miller, Korra and Prue Moore; dear siblings, Bob Moore (Becki), and Debbie Grasher; his very special friend , whom he loved very much, Patty Lane.
Bill was preceded in death by his father, Louie Moore; his mother, Vivian Etheridge and husband Cecil; his siblings, Tom Moore, Mike Moore, Sandy Deadmond, Beverly Bateman, and Melba June Moore.
Mr. Moore was a proud Vietnam Veteran, ES Special 1st Class, E Battery 82nd Artillery, a helicopter mechanic who served his country with honor. Upon his return home from the service, Bill worked in the oil fields. Bill was an avid wood worker, building toys and dollhouses at Christmas to donate to children. He was always found tinkering in his wood shed. Bill loved watching Bob Ross and loved painting. He spent a lot of time teaching his daughter, Dee and her husband Joe how to build and all the tricks of building. They were his best friends.
Bill was determined, headstrong, and could persevere through any trial. He enjoyed fishing and Bill loved being a Grandpa to his treasured grandkids more than anything. Bill was of Baptist faith and was a true believer in God. He was ready to meet the Lord. His own words were, “It will be so beautiful to see the Lord”.
A celebration of life graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at the Peaceful Valley Cemetery in Odin with Brother Claude Howell officiating. Military rites will be provided by the Centralia VFW Post 2055 American Legion Post 446. Memorials may be made to the family of Mr. Moore and will be accepted for them at the Irvin Macz funeral Home 234 South elm Street Centralia, Illinois 62801.
