Daisy Jean Newcomb

Daisy Jean Newcomb, 85 of Centralia passed away Sunday, June 2, 2024. She was born on February 27, 1939, in Florida.

Daisy was preceded in death by both of her parents, Thomas and Avis (Gilliard) Kennison; her husband, Rev. Walter “Gene” Newcomb; children, Cindy (Willis) Smith, Harold Willis, Sara Newcomb; and several brothers and sisters.

Daisy is survived by 9 of her 12 children, James “Bo” Willis of Yulee, FL, Jimmy Willis and wife Jeannie of St. Cloud, FL, Russell Willis of Folkston, GA, Rhoda Marie Willis of GA, Clarence Newcomb of Centralia, IL, David Newcomb and wife Paula of Yulee, FL, Raymond “Scotty” Newcomb and wife Mary Beth of Centralia, IL, Jimmy Newcomb of Deland, FL, Arthur Newcomb and wife Sherry of Deland, FL; 22 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Rick Smith of Centralia; and several siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends.

Daisy was a housewife, mother and grandmother, who cared deeply for God, and her family even while dealing with health issues. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting, sewing, watching Christian programming or Scooby-Doo and spending time with her family. She held a special love for her many grandchildren. Granny or “Big Granny”, as she was referred to by her grandkids, always kept treats for her “babies”. She would offer assistance (if possible) to someone in need and was the first to defend her kids if needed. She will be deeply missed by many.

A celebration of life service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Monday, June 10, 2024, at the Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia with Brother Paul Holsapple officiating. Interment will follow at Richview Cemetery in Richview. Friends and family are welcome to a visitation time from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday at the funeral home in Centralia. Memorials may be made in Daisy’s honor to the Irvin Macz Funeral Home to aid with funeral expenses.
