David Holden

David Edwin Cap “Shannon” Holden, 74, of Sandoval passed away, surrounded by the love of his family, Friday, October 13, 2023. He was born on October 8, 1949, the son of James and Gloria (Headley) Holden in Fairmont, West Virginia. He married the love of his life, Martha Berger, June of 1980 in Kentucky, and she survives him in Centralia.

Along with his devoted wife of 43 years, Martha Holden, survivors include his children, Carol (Keith) Holden Sloan of West Frankfort, Illinois, Susan (Mike) Boerner of Camby, Indiana, Anita Hilton (Faron Schrader) of Georgia, Adella Bradley (Chad Flannery) of Alabama, and Steven Hilton (Michelle Henson) of Centralia, Illinois; 18 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; sisters, Vickie Lampley of Benton, Illinois, and Carol Hester of Benton, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.

David was preceded in death by his parents; and his daughter, Tammy Hilton.

David worked long hours as an over the road truck driver, valuing the importance of providing for his family. He was a proud member of the Showman’s League of America for 50 years. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Benton. He attended West Long Prairie Christian Church in Waltonville. David enjoyed searching for treasure at flea markets, always keeping his eye out for rare coins and stamps to add to his collection. David liked to get a good game of cards together, especially when he held the winning hand at spades. He loved to travel to beautiful destinations to relax and reconnect with his beloved wife, Martha. David was a wonderful example of dedication, loyalty, generosity, and fun. 

A celebration of life service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Friday, October 20, 2023, at the Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia with John Willis officiating. Relatives and friends are welcome from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the funeral home in Centralia. Memorials may be made in David’s honor to the Donor’s Choice.
