Don Harmening

Donald Frederick Amos Harmening, 85, of Centralia passed away with his beloved wife Phyllis at his side, Friday, January 27, 2023, at their home. He was born on September 22, 1937, the son of Edwin and Margaret (Karmeier) Harmening in New Minden. He married the love of his life, Phyllis Crouch on August 27, 1961 in Centralia and she survives him in Centralia.

Along with his devoted wife, Phyllis Harmening, Don is survived by his children, Rochelle (Jeff) Carder of Centralia, Trent Harmening (Dana Potts) of Quincy; grandchildren, Shannon (Jeremy) Queen, Stefanie (David) Arteche, Wayne (Michelle) Dersch, Kristen (Brandon) Hall; and great-grandchildren, Paris, Jaydon, Jaxon, Jordan, Eleanor, Aliany, Walker, Siler, Kallie, Addilyn.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Jo Ann Weihe, Joyce Boester, and Betty Wallace.

Don served his country with pride in the United States Air Force. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Centralia. In younger years, Don shared his talent for pitching, sending in screamers for nervous batters while playing fast pitch softball. He was always there to lend a hand to anyone in need. Don was an AA member for 40 years, sponsoring many grateful people. He knew the benefit of hard work, providing for his family as a truck dispatcher and working other part-time jobs during retirement. He was the most supportive grandfather who enriched his grandchildren’s lives with his active presence. Don and Phyllis shared a wonderful marriage of love, trust and compromise, which was truly an amazing example to everyone they knew. Don will be remembered for his quiet way, his thoughtfulness of others, and devotion to his wife and family,

A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 3, 2023 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Centralia with Pastor James Hennig officiating . Burial to follow at St. John’s Cemetery in New Minden, where military rites will be accorded by the Centralia VFW Post 2055 and the American Legion Post 446. Friends and relatives are welcome to a visitation time from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the church in Centralia. Memorials may be made in Don’s honor to Trinity Lutheran Church, Centralia.
