DuAnn Bates Obituary

DuAnn Marie (Hahn) Bates, 71, of Patoka passed away surrounded by the love of her family, Wednesday, June 16, 2021. She was born on September 5, 1949, the daughter of Duane and Wilma (Rohlfing) Hahn in Centralia. She married James “Jim” Bates on August 28, 1993, at their home in Patoka, and he survives in Patoka.

Along with her husband of 27 years, survivors that will remember DuAnn’s beautiful smile and the way she could light up a room include her beloved family, children, Kelly Jenkins and wife Fran, and Darrin Jenkins and wife Vicki; bonus children, Ty Bates and wife Carrie, and Tia Beyers; grandchildren, Lauri Neto and husband Galileu, Victor Jenkins and wife Tiffany, Wyatt Jenkins and wife Kirsten, Jacob Jenkins and wife Olivia, Emily Jenkins, Ben Jenkins, Faith Jenkins, Koby Wilmoth, Kennedy Bates, Kaytlyn Bates, and Lyla Beyers; great-grandchildren, Kylen Jenkins, Audrey Jenkins, Kimmi Jenkins, Charlie Jenkins, Slade Jenkins, Samantha Neto, and expecting Jacob’s baby; sisters, Vicki Harrington and husband Bob, Sherri Jett and husband Dean, Rhonda Rhodes and husband Joey, TJ Cook and husband Sam, and Dawn Fowler and husband Gary; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Bill and Marilyn Bates; and sister-in-law, Jeanine Bohan and husband Dr. Jim Bohan.

DuAnn worked as a hairdresser for 40 years. She enjoyed to fellowship with her church family at the Patoka Christian Church and was baptized into her faith in Jesus Christ, at the age of 23 by Marvin Chandler. She was an active member of her church, serving as a Sunday school teacher, decorating for vacation bible school, and helping to create the church floats for Patoka’s annual Fall Festival. She loved helping Jim farm and tending her beautiful flower gardens. She was so appreciative to her friends that never left her side and showered her with thoughts, prayers, and love. She wished a special thank you to them and wanted them to know she loved them all so much. Her fondest memories were of time spent with Jim and their children at family dinners, and when all the grandchildren would come for a sleepover. DuAnn’s example of appreciation for the little things, showing kindness, sharing a smile, and giving love to all will never be forgotten.
