Ed Burns Obituary

John Edward Burns Jr., 85, of Carlyle passed away Monday, November 6, 2023, at HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese. He was born on December 21, 1937, the son of John E. Sr. and Freda Mae (Porter) Burns in Sandoval. He married Elizabeth “Liz” Chappell on January 9, 1959, and she preceded him in death on December 16, 2017.

Survivors include his daughters, Brenda Robare, and Debra Kay Owens; granddaughter, Jennifer Riley, Sarah Semones, Adrianna Tomljanovich, and Ashley Owens; six great-granddaughters; sisters, Mary Saatkamp and husband Kenneth of Sandoval, Kay Cain and husband Clayton of Patoka,  and Pat Bryan and husband Bill of Sandoval; and many loved nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Along with his beloved wife of 58 years, Ed was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Blackie Raymond Burns, and Danny Burns

Ed retired from General Motors after years of loyal service. He will be dearly remembered by family and friends for his passionate storytelling and the energy he brought to every gathering he attended. Ed had a witty sense of humor, who was known to be a bit of a prankster, doing anything for a laugh. He was always available to go out to dinner with friends and family to enjoy a good meal and good conversation. He had many unfinished projects he liked to tinker with, as he liked to be a problem solver. Ed was an amazing family man, cherishing time spent with his loved ones above anything else. His hard work ethic and way of embracing all the goodness life had to offer will never be forgotten.

A celebration of life service will be held at 5:00 p.m. Friday, November 10, 2023, at the Day Macz Funeral Home in Sandoval with Brother Claude Howell officiating.
