Gary Albert Quick

Gary Albert Quick died Saturday, September 7, 2024, in Breese, Illinois, following a brief battle with cancer. He was born July 15, 1951, in Breese, IL, to Burl Albert and Helen Frances (Payne) Quick. A graduate of Carlyle High School, Class of 1969, he played trumpet in the school band and later in life participated in team sports (including basketball, softball, and bowling) and period reenacting. 

Gary married Anita Rae Stephens on September 1, 1973. He leaves behind his wife of 51 years, their daughter Karon Leigh Quick and spouse Josh Rendleman, daughter Darcy Anne Quick and spouse Tim Quick, his sisters Carol Wright and Doris Wells, nephew Kenneth Wright and spouse Robin, nieces Kara Wright and Dera Leadbetter and spouse Ray Leadbetter, great-nephews Nathan Leadbetter and spouse Christina, Ryan Leadbetter and spouse Cara, Ethan Wright, and Parker Wright, great-nieces Elsa Wright and Leanna Wright, and great-great-nieces Vivienne Leadbetter, Katherine Leadbetter, Emma Leadbetter, and Abigail Leadbetter. He was preceded in death by his parents, Burl and Helen Quick, step-mother Nevelyn Quick, nephew Douglas Wells, brother-in-law Charles Wright, and his faithful companion Winston.

Gary attended Kaskaskia College and farmed until 2018. He served as a deacon of the First Christian Church, Salem, spent 24 years as East Fork Township Trustee, and was a trustee for a multi-township rural fire protection district. He also served on the Ferrin Coop Board of Directors and the Southern Illinois NoTill Association Board of Directors. Gary was a member of the American Soybean Association, NRA, Clinton County Farm Bureau, and the Turner Brigade Civil War reenacting unit. He was a lifetime farmer, part-time genius, avid reader, and a lover of music, cars, and tractor shows. A great man and role model, he will be remembered for his warm smile, caring heart, profound kindness, and sense of humor.

A celebration of life service will be held by the family at a later date. Memorials may be made in Gary’s honor to the American Cancer Society, or the Boulder United Methodist Church and will be accepted for the family at the Day Macz Funeral Home in Sandoval.  Online condolences and memories of Gary may be shared with his family by visiting maczfuneralhomes.com and/or on the funeral home’s Facebook page.
