Irma (Veal) Meador

Irma Meador, 90, of Iuka passed away Sunday, October 3, 2021, at her home with her family surrounding her in love. She was born on February 24, 1931, the daughter of Leroy and Sarah (Wadkins) Veal in Vernon. She married Ernest Hocking on February 27, 1949, and 10 children were born of this union. He preceded her in death on April 7, 1982. She married Stanley Meador on June 17, 1975, and he preceded her in death on February 24, 2007.

Survivors include her beloved family, children Jerry Hocking and wife Nancy of Irvington, Larry Hocking of Olive Branch, Donna Mattmiller of Odin, Scott Hocking and wife Kim of Iuka, Wesley Hocking and wife Jan of Salem, Anita Wilkins of Kell, and Carol Woodward and husband Eric of Iuka; step-children Anita Balance of Kansas, Cheryl Phillips of Patoka, Keith Meador and wife Marie of McClouth, Kansas; 29 grandchildren; 6 step-grandchildren; 61 great-grandchildren; 7 step great-grandchildren; 28 great-great-grandchildren; siblings Joe Veal and wife Pat, Carl Veal and wife Ruby, Charles Veal and wife Gloria, Donnie Veal and wife Jean, Wanda Hinrichs, and Patricia Veal; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Along with her two husbands, Irma was preceded in death by her parents Leroy and Sarah Veal; sisters Alberta Fry, Bonnie Veal, Juanita Hollowell, Betty Hinrichs, Jerry Veal, William Veal, and Ruby Morey; children Robert Hocking, Richard Hocking, and David Hocking.

Irma was a kindhearted lady of the Christian faith. Raising her children in the Vernon area, she was a wonderful mother, who devoted all her time and energy to caring for her family and her home. She was an amazing cook and baker, known for her delicious pies. Irma raised abundant vegetable gardens and made sure to share the fresh flavors with others. She was the best grandma and liked to brag on her grandchildren, she was so proud of. Irma led a simple life and found joy in spending time with her family.

Day Macz Funeral Home in Patoka is privileged to be assisting the family of Irma Meador with arrangements. A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 6, 2021, at the Day Macz Funeral Home in Patoka with Rev. Calvin Jean officiating. Interment will follow at Farmers Cemetery in Shobonier. Friends are welcome to a visitation time from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday at the funeral home in Patoka. Memorials may be made in Irma’s honor to Farmers Cemetery.
