James ”Jimmy” Richard Haskell, 80, of Centralia passed away, into the arms of Jesus, Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at Axiom Healthcare in Mt. Vernon. He was born on July 20, 1945, in Sacramento, California, the son of Gary and Thelma (Smith) Mulder.
James was a devoted man of faith whose life was rooted in his love for God and service to others. A dedicated and faithful member of the Pentecostal Church of God in Centralia, he had a servant’s heart and eagerly helped his church, family, and community whenever he was able. James understood the importance of advancing God’s Kingdom by shining a bright light to dispel darkness. He believed his purpose on this earth was to “do business for the King,” and he made that calling his life’s mission.
Affectionately known as the “peanut brittle man,” James could often be found selling the church’s delicious peanut brittle with grateful friends and neighbors throughout the community. His love for fellowship extended beyond one congregation. While his home church was the Pentecostal Church of God in Centralia, he was also a member of the First Apostolic Church in Centralia and the Missionary Baptist Church of WMAC. James loved being surrounded by others who shared his beliefs and formed lasting friendships wherever he worshiped.
His faith was often expressed through song, and among his favorite church hymns were “Victory in Jesus,” “Where the Roses Never Fade,” and “What a Day That Will Be,” songs that reflected his hope, devotion, and unwavering belief in eternal life.
A graveside service will be held at Elmwood Cemetery on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at 10:00A.M. where James’ final resting place will be by his mother, Thelma Haskell. Pastor Jonathan Urshan will be officiating. To honor James’ life, you may look for opportunities to volunteer in your community. Shining the light of encouragement in others’ lives, just like James did.
