Jerry Ray

Gerald Lee “Jerry” Ray, 87, of Centralia passed away Friday, February 28, 2025, at Centralia Manor. He was born on October 9, 1937, the son of Merle and Dottie (Davis) Ray in St. Louis. He married Carolyn Morgan in 1964 at Mt. Vernon and she survives him in Centralia.

Along with his beloved wife, Carolyn Ray, Jerry is survived by his children, Cydney (Lewis) Richardson of Centralia, Montel (Brian) O’Sullivan of Centralia, and Shannon Ray of Centralia; granddaughter, Holland (Shane) Favier of Pinckneyville; great-granddaughter, Sophia Favier; sisters, Roberta (Everett) Young of Flora, and Vickie Sachau of Flora.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Ray was proud to be in the United States Navy for four years.  Jerry owned Ray Packing Company in Centralia for many years. He was well respected in the community as a life insurance agent for Pekin Insurance. Jerry was proud to support the town he called home and served on the Centralia Township Board as a trustee. He was a definite Orphan Football fan, happily volunteering on the “chain gang”. He loved to cook barbeque and enjoyed his time as an official Kansas City Barbeque judge. Jerry made many lasting memories fishing with his friends and family, teaching his granddaughter, Holland all his tricks to catching fish. As a true “people” person, he never met a stranger, and he liked to entertain and cook for his guests. Jerry loved a good ribeye steak, and he was famous for his award-winning chili.

Jerry was a beloved resident of Centralia Manor for many years, where he was surrounded by kindness, compassion and exceptional care. The staff there became like family to him, treating him with warmth and love every step of the way. His family couldn’t have asked for better care, for Jerry or for themselves, as they navigated this journey together. His family’s hearts are full of gratitude for everyone at Centralia Manor who made his time there so special.

There is no doubt that Jerry is now doing all his favorite things in paradise, driving his tractor, singing a Meatloaf song and planning that next fishing trip.
