Jim Flagg Obituary

Jim H. Flagg, 84, of Centralia passed away Friday, October 9, 2021. He was born on June 4, 1937, the son of Julius and Edna (Coleman) Flagg in Haywood County, Tennessee. He married Patricia Taylor on May 10, 1986, and she survives in Centralia.

Along with his devoted wife of 36 years, Patricia Flagg, Jim is survived in life by his beloved family, children Lisa Atkins of Shiloh, Illinois, Lemuel Flagg of Atlanta, Georgia, Stacey Flagg of Riverdale, Georgia, Terence (Sheila) Coleman of Florissant, Missouri, Delon (Akesha) Coleman of Shiloh, Illinois, and Andre (Jessica) Coleman of Centralia, Illinois; 23 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; brother Al Frank Flagg; a host of nieces and nephews including special nephew, Darrell “Speedy” Atkins.

Mr. Flagg was preceded in death by his parents Julius and Edna Flagg; brothers George Flagg, Larry Flagg, James Allen Flagg, Rev. Eugene Flagg, Julius Flagg, and Samuel Flagg; sisters Denise Bowers, Faye Scott, and Abby Flagg; and sons Jerome Flagg, and Jason Coleman.

Mr. Flagg was a proud veteran of the United States Navy where he served with honor and pride. He was an amazing provider and protector of his family and worked at Hindman Manufacturing for 22 years. He had an eye for beautiful vintage cars and was proud of his trophy winning 1984 2-door Fleetwood that he took to many car shows. Jim enjoyed watching old television shows, especially ones with his favorite actor, Redd Foxx. His efforts to keep his garden looking pristine won him a Project Pride award in Centralia and brought beauty to his neighborhood. He was a master behind the grill, and everyone loved to come and eat when he was cooking. Jim will be deeply missed by all his friends and family.
