Leonard Newcomb Obituary

Obituary for Leonard D. Newcomb
November 2, 1934 – August 7, 2025

Leonard D. Newcomb, born November 2, 1934, to Doy and Faye Newcomb, passed away peacefully at home on August 7, 2025, surrounded by family and love.

A brother to Charles (deceased), Juanita (deceased), Phyliss, and Stanley, Leonard grew up with strong roots in family and faith—values that would shape every chapter of his life.

Leonard was a loving and endlessly patient partner to Mary Joyce (Cooner) Newcomb until her passing in 2011. Together, they raised eight children (Cathy, Pam, Cindy, Lenny, Tina, Penny and adopted children Nathan and Elsa) and helped nurture a legacy of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren too numerous to count—but never too many to love.

A man with a passion for people and an unmatched gift of gab, Leonard made friends wherever he went. He had a lifelong love of working on and collecting cars, enjoyed golf with the same ferocity he showed in life, and took immense pride in mowing lawns—his own and those of anyone else who’d let him.

Sunday mornings were sacred for Leonard, not just for worship, but for community. He could often be found at the front door of Fouts Church, greeting everyone with a smile and a familiar, “Come on in.” It was there, on one of those Sundays, that Leonard met Barbara “Bobbie” Williams. Their connection was instant and deep. In 2013, surrounded by loved ones at Fouts Church, Leonard and Bobbie married, joining two families into one with grace, humor, and joy. Leonard lovingly embraced Bobbie’s family, including her sons, Eric, Terry, Tim, Todd and Aaron, who he loved immensely.

Leonard’s passing leaves a hole in the hearts of many, but his spirit lives on in the lives he touched. He is now reunited with his beloved Joyce, his great-grandson Rocky, stepsons Todd and Eric, brother Francis who died in childhood, son-in-law, Mark Miller and many cherished friends and family who went before him.

Leonard leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and welcome—a man who could strike up a conversation with anyone, fix just about anything with a wrench or a story, and never let you leave without knowing you mattered.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Leonard by extending kindness to a stranger, mowing a neighbor’s lawn, or showing up early to church just to say hello.

He was deeply loved and will be dearly missed.

A celebration of life service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at Fouts Christian Church in Centralia with Pastor Jerry Wilson officiating.
