Martha Elizabeth Petrea

Martha Elizabeth (Bergmann) Petrea, 101, passed away Thursday, September 29, 2022, at Carlyle Healthcare. She was born on December 7, 1920, the daughter of Joseph and Clara (Mensing) Bergmann. She married the love of her life Carl Leroy Petrea on January 16, 1957, in Centralia and he preceded her in death on October 31, 2011.

Survivors include her devoted family, her sisters Leona Stover of Hoffman, Alvina Donnewald of Carlyle, and Dorothy Restoff of Bartelso; her nieces and nephews Tina and Bob Donnewald, Sharon and Cary Dickinson, Jean and Kevin Howe, Mary Ann and Mike Liut, Susie Hempen, Mike and Brandy Donnewald, Tom Restoff and Greg Launius, Gary Restoff, and Ed Toedte.

Along with her beloved husband of 54 years, Carl Petrea, Martha was preceded in death by her parents.

Martha was a devout Catholic and member of St. Mary’s Church in Centralia. She was no stranger to hard work, holding the unique position of butcherette at Kroger, and sharing her charm while doing sales for Illinois Power. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held privately at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Centralia with Monsignor David Darin officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in rural Sandoval. Memorials may be made in Martha’s honor to the Donor’s Choice and will be accepted for the family at the Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia.
