Martha Vaughn Obituary

Martha Rose Vaughn, 80, of Flossmoor, Illinois passed from her earthly life and went home to the arms of her Lord and Savior, Wednesday, June 30, 2021. She was born on January 7, 1941, the daughter of B.J.  and Rosalie (Lewis) Scott in Centralia, Illinois. She married the love of her life, Obie L. Vaughn, Jr. on September 30, 1959, in Salem, Illinois and he preceded her in death in 2002.

Survivors left to mourn the passing of Martha include her beloved family, children Kyra Vaughn, Karlton Vaughn, Kendrick Vaughn, Brandon Scott; grandchildren Nicholas (Sherrah) Vaughn, Mikyla Maxon, Khalia Maxon; sister Lillie Jackson; brother, Roland (Thelma) Wooters; nieces Cheryl Burgess, Carole Burgess; nephew, Steven Burgess; special aunt Jewel Watson; cousins Sherry Lewis-Kessee, Linda Lewis; special family, Algie Dabney, and Delmar Hill; special friends Joyce King, and Tangy Blakely.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents B.J. Scott and Rosalie (Lewis) Scott; sister, Lillian (Scott) Burgess; brother, Kenneth Scott; and her daughter, Lisa Vaughn.

Martha valued education and was proud to work as a teacher for over 40 years, sharing her knowledge with others, and instilling in them the importance of growing one’s mind. She was an avid reader, enjoying the opportunity to learn from, and be entertained by her favorite authors. Her time spent in reflection and study of the Bible, always brought her peace and clarity. She genuinely loved being a grandmother, and spending time with her precious grandchildren was at the top of her to do list. Martha was a woman of great faith and grace. She leaves behind, in her loved ones, a passion for learning, caring for others, and living each day to the fullest.
