Mary Gunther Obituary

Mary Gunther, 86, of Sandoval passed away Friday, January 10, 2025, at her home in Sandoval. She was born on October 14, 1938, the daughter of George Henry and Emma Gertrude (O’Neill) Wurm in Centralia. She married Roger Lay on July 4, 1966. She later married William Gunther on October 5, 1991, and he preceded her in death.

Survivors that will hold dear memories of Mary include her beloved family, her son, Joe Lay of Centralia; her daughter, Kim Williams and husband Craig of Heyworth; step-children, Deborah Vigil, and Brian Gunther; grandchildren, Amber and husband Brad, Jake and wife Ashley, Amie, Cameron, Connor, and Jarred; step-grandchildren, Amanda, Zachariah, Miguila, and Josh; great-grandchildren, Madyson, Kinsley, Brynley, Drake, Jaelinn, Arah, Nariah, and Kyson; her sister, Sue Dye of South Carolina; and extended family, and friends.

Along with her husband Bill Gunther, Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter-in-law, Sherri Lay; and her step-daughter, Carol Oestreich.

Mary spent most her life working for Miss Elaine and continued sewing throughout life after retirement. Mary shared her sewing talent, working as a seamstress for many grateful people. She also created the most beautiful quilts, that were shared and treasured by family and friends. Mary was generous and giving to her community and those in need. She was a major donor to the Red Cross, never missing a chance to give at their blood drives. Mary enjoyed her days basking in the warmth of the sun, tending to her roses that she loved. Mary was loving and kind, a wonderful mother, a loyal friend, and she will be deeply missed by all.
