Maxine Myrick Obituary

Maxine Myrick, 84, of Patoka passed away Sunday, March 3, 2024, at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital. She was born on April 4, 1939, the youngest daughter of 9 children of Louis Jennings and Dora Ethel (Senn) Saddler in Oriole, Indiana. She married the love of her life, Alva Eugene Myrick on May 22, 1959, in New Albany, Indiana, and he preceded her in death on February 5, 2016.

Survivors who are mourning the loss of this dear lady include her beloved family, her daughter, Sandra Kay Henson and husband Johnnie of Patoka; her grandchildren, James Tidwell, Joshua Bishop and wife Amanda; step-grandchildren, Jennifer Cook, and Sasha Stone; great-grandchildren, Krista Kline and husband Matt, Jami Tidwell, Aedan Watson, and Wyatt Burton; great-great-grandchildren, Lucie Kline, and Charlie Kline; and granddaughter-in-law, Brandy Smith.

Along with her devoted husband of 56 years, Alva Myrick, Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Dennis Myrick in 2004; and her brother and sisters.

Maxine’s compassionate heart and ability to put other’s needs before her own was a blessing to her family and friends. At a young age, she was ready to start her working career to support herself and her family. A natural caregiver, who stood by her husband through thick and thin, Maxine and Alva shared a love that stood the test of time. Moving to Patoka in 1980, Maxine and her husband were elated to own their “dream home” that had wide open spaces for their dogs to roam. Maxine and Alva were an amazing team, mowing their yard together, fixing things around their house, shopping, trying their luck on gambling trips, and raising beautiful flower and vegetable gardens. She loved her flowers, planting at times up to 1,000 sets of bloom power to beautify her yard, earning her an award for Patoka’s Prettiest Yard.

Maxine was the very best “Granny” to her adored grandchildren, making sure they had places to play outside in the plastic pool or 4-wheeling around their land. When the grandkids were over, Maxine always had good food cooking for them in the kitchen like her delicious, homemade vegetable soup and chili. She loved to have her family and friends close and would just glow whenever they were around. Maxine was a true lady of impeccable character who lived life with purpose and class.

A private celebration of life graveside service will be held at Patoka City Cemetery with Reed Tallman officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Maxine’s honor to Second Chance Animal Rescue in Vandalia.
