Obituary

McArthur Herron “Mack”, 49 years old, of Centralia, Illinois passed away at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon, Illinois on Wednesday, September 13, 2023. McArthur “Mack” was born May 28, 1974, in East St. Louis, Illinois, the son of Janice Watson and McArthur Golliday. He married Christina Knight on October 8, 1999, in Davidson County, Tennessee.

“Mack” graduated from Centralia High School in 1992. During his high school years, he played basketball, ran track, and played football, receiving accolades in all of them. He received a scholarship to Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois for basketball. He went on to further his education at Tennessee State University, Nashville, Tennessee, where he acquired a bachelor’s degree. He worked as a teacher’s aid after college in Nashville, Tennessee.
McArthur “Mack” was a hard worker. He was employed at Murray Center, Centralia, Illinois as a mental Health technician and went on to work at Centralia Post Office as a mail carrier.

“Mack” was spiritual, and he believed in God. He was sentimental, caring and loving, always to say “I love you” when he was leaving. He had a voice that was unforgettable to everyone that knew him. “Mack’s” zest for life will live in the gracious transplant recipients who received his gift of organ donation.

He loved his children, and he always wanted them to know that and to know each other.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Janice Watson; his wife, Christina Knight of Nashville, Tennessee; his children, Sherrod, Shania, Christian, McKeena and Blake of Tennessee, McKyra of Carbondale, Illinois, and Maxwell and Maliyah of Centralia; grandson, Iy'lan Calek Cummings; four siblings, Felicia Tally-Glispie of Centralia, Illinois, Terrence Tally of Decatur, Illinois, David Herron of Centralia, Illinois, Sandy Golliday of California; and a host of relatives and friends.

McArthur “Mack” was preceded in death by his grandmother, Lucinda Tally; his grandfather, Jimmie Tally; his grandfather, Woodrow Golliday; his father, McArthur Golliday; and his son, Mack Calek Herron.
