Michael David Murray

Michael David Murray, 64, of Centralia, Illinois passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2025. He was born on May 1, 1961, the son of Dale and Barbara Ann (Starr) Murray in Chicago, Illinois.

Survivors that will remember Michael’s loving spirit include his father, Dale Murray and wife Lillian of Windsor, Ontario Canada; sisters, Shari L. Hughes of California, Desiree “Kim” (Rocky) Mays of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; nieces and nephews, Hubert, Anthony, Marcus, Deanderus and wife Deneya, Rockael and wife Yvonne, Desiree, and Destin.

Michael was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Murray.

Michael was a proud Centralia Township High School graduate, Class of 1979. He was known as a basketball legend, who many referred to as Dazz. He had amazing skills on the basketball court, playing at Kaskaskia College in Centralia, Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville and New Mexico University. While playing at Kaskaskia College, Michael was honored with the title of leading scorer in the nation. He was of the Baptist faith. Michael will be remembered for his positive attitude, his optimistic way of seeing people, and for his deep love for his family.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 27, 2025, at Hillcrest Memorial Park, at the Lakeside Chapel and Mausoleum, in Centralia.
