Patty J. Carlson, 90, of Centralia passed away Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at her home, with family by her side. She was born on March 27, 1934, the daughter of Charles “Elmo” and Virginia (Owens) Brantley in Centralia. She married the love of her life and her best friend, Dickie Carlson on August 28, 1968, in Las Vegas, NV and he preceded her in death on September 15, 2006.
Survivors left to mourn her passing, that will remember Patty’s gentle spirit include her 3 nieces, Cheryl Tabor and husband Gary, Kimberly Robinett and husband Rusty, and Trina Schneider and husband Alan; sister-in-law, Frances Brantley; and special caregiver, Tina Basola, all of Centralia.
Along with her husband, Dickie Carlson, Patty was preceded in death by her parents; her infant daughter, Lori Ann Carlson; brother, Allen Duane Brantley; and sister-in-law, Carolyn Young.
Patty was a lifelong resident of Centralia and proud to call this community she loved her home. She was extremely organized and a loyal employee of the Old National Bank in Centralia for 18 years. Patty was also an asset to the Illinois Power Company in the office for 8 years. In earlier years, she enjoyed her weekly bowling league, bingo, and card club. During fair weather seasons, she could usually be found outside tending to her yard, until failing health prevented her. She was of the Protestant faith. Patty was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. She also enjoyed being with family and friends. Patty always had a kind word and smile for everyone she met. She was soft spoken, intelligent and made others feel instantly welcome and accepted. Patty will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
A celebration of life service will be at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, December 7, 2024, at Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia with Pastor Steve Upchurch officiating. A private family interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery, where Patty will be laid to rest with her husband and infant daughter. Friends and relatives are welcome to a visitation time from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home in Centralia. Memorials may be made in Patty’s honor to the Centralia Humane Society, Ronald McDonald House, or the Charity of the Donor’s Choice and will be accepted for the family at the Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia, who are privileged to be assisting the family of Patty Carlson with arrangements.
