Paul Spitler Obituary

Paul Jackson “P.J.” Spitler, 87, of Odin passed away Sunday, May 22, 2022, at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia. He was born on November 15, 1934, the son of Eden D. and Beryl (Jackson) Spitler in Odin.

Survivors include his sons Doug Spitler of Odin, Scott Spitler of Centralia, and Lewis Spitler and wife Leanna of Odin; daughter Dana Harrell of Salem; grandchildren Chrissy, Matt, Megan, Shane, Laura, Billy, and Jamie; 10 great-grandchildren; sister Judy Miller; and many nieces and nephews.

P.J. was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Bill Spitler, Bob Spitler, Dave Spitler, and Dale Spitler; son Paul Douglas Spitler; and daughter Deb Campbell.

P.J. will be remembered by his strong work ethic, which was a great asset to his brother’s Shell Station in Odin, where P.J. worked for 23 years until it closed. He then drove semi-trucks until he started working as a correctional officer for the State of Illinois where he retired from. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying time spent hunting deer and fishing for anything that would bite while out on his boat. When he wasn’t hunting or fishing, P.J. could be found on his mower, making his yard the most manicured in his neighborhood. He also shared his green thumb while planting beautiful flower gardens which he loved. P.J. was a man everyone respected, who knew the value of taking good care of what you had and helping others whenever it was possible.

A celebration of life service will be held at a future date at Peaceful Valley Cemetery in Odin. Memorials may be made in Paul’s honor to Peaceful Valley Cemetery.
