Penny Sue Spencer, 76, of Odin passed away Saturday, July 15, 2023, at her home in Odin. She was born on August 22, 1946, the daughter of Delbert and Virginia (Bregger) Turner in Centralia. She married James Spencer on July 5, 1963, in Odin and he survives her in Odin.
Along with her devoted husband of 60 years, James Spencer, survivors that will remember the way Penny could light up a room include her beloved family, sons, Todd Spencer of Sacramento, California, and Trenton Spencer and wife Jennifer of Ashkum, Illinois; brother, Gerald Turner and wife Sandy of Willits, California; and sister, Lisa Berger of Florida.
Penny was preceded in death by her parents; her sister Joannie; and her brother-in-law, Mike Berger.
Penny had a welcoming smile, an adventurous spirit, and was a joy to be around. She was a loyal wife and a loving, nurturing mother to her sons. Penny loved to host get togethers, and was grateful to open her home as a gathering place for family and friends. When her sons were growing up the family pool was always full of friends and laughter. Penny and James loved to travel in their motor home, taking in the beauty of each new destination across the United States, and making memories to last a lifetime. Penny was a beautiful lady, both inside and out who left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
A celebration of life service will be held at a date in the future. Memorials may be made in Penny’s honor to The American Cancer Society and will be accepted for the family at the Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Odin by mailing to 234 S. Elm St. Centralia, IL 62801. Online condolences and memories of Penny may be shared with the family by visiting www.maczfuneralhomes.com and/or on the funeral home’s Facebook page.
