Phyllis Guthrie Obituary

Phyllis Ann Guthrie, 89, of Centralia passed away Saturday, April 19, 2025, at St. Louis University Hospital. She was born on February 18, 1936, the daughter of George and Mildred Mae (Cole) Chambers in Centralia.

Survivors include her twin sons, Brian (Lisa) Guthrie of Centralia and Brent (Janice) Guthrie of Carlyle; grandchildren, Garett (Amanda) Guthrie, Macie (Jarrett) Osborne, Alexander (Taylor) Powers; great-grandchildren, Eloise Ann Guthrie, Gabriel Osborne, Charrlotte Osborne, Levi Osborne, Kaiden Osborne, Harper Powers, Ezra Powers; and dear friend, Nancy Clark of Centralia.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, George and Mildred Chambers; brother, Steve Chambers; granddaughter, Erin Michelle Powers; and great-granddaughter, Jacie Anne Osborne.

Phyllis was a hard worker and a loyal employee of Hollywood Candy Factory and Miss Elaine’s in Centralia. She was also a welcome, smiling face at Wal-Mart and Dollar General in Centralia. Phyllis was active in the community and a member of the Women of the Moose, where she made lasting friendships. She was of the Protestant faith. Phyllis was a huge supporter and number one fan of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an avid Centralia Orphans fan, and always ready to watch a good basketball, softball or football game, in person or on television. She enjoyed playing church Bingo, doing word searches and her big heart for animals was apparent to everyone. Phyllis was a true treasure hunter when it came to rummage sales, impressing everyone with her ability to find just what she was looking for. She was a loyal friend and a true social butterfly. Her warmth and sassy attitude instantly put others in a good mood and her smile could just light up a room. Phyllis will be remembered for her trendy hairstyles and her example of living bold and unashamed. Phyllis was a beauty inside and out, kind, funny, and her fierce love for her family and friends will never be forgotten.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia.
